Trust me - I've had some lean Christmases but I never had a bad one. We always had some kind of game in the freezer, whether we brought it home or a neighbor shared their good fortune.  Elk stew or elk roast became a holiday tradition - and most of the time, that and venison were all we had in the freezer.  Times were hard, but I would absolutely do it all again.
