I have always been fascinated with the Apostle John - probably because he's referred to as the one Jesus loved, more than once.  He is also one of the primary writers of the New Testament.  Max Lucado, one of my favorite authors, wrote a description of John, sitting in the back of a room of believers and teachers, stroking his beard and jotting down notes.  This sculpture was inspired by that story, and thus named for the opening of the the book of John.
